Development of palladium catalysts modified by ruthenium and molybdenum as anode in direct ethanol fuel cell

Abstract Physical and electrochemical properties of Pd catalysts combined with Ru Mo on carbon support were investigated. To this end, Pd, 1.3 1.0 , 3.2 1.5 0.8 synthesized Carbon Vulcan XC72 by the method thermal decomposition polymeric precursors then physically electrochemically characterized. The highest reaction yields are obtained for /C and, as demonstrated analysis, they also show smallest metal/carbon ratio compared other catalysts. XRD (X-ray Diffraction) Raman analyses presence PdO RuO 2 Pd/C catalysts, respectively, a fact not observed catalytic activities tested ethanol oxidation in alkaline medium. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) shows exhibiting peak current density, followed /C, Pd/C. From, chronoamperometry (CA), it is possible to observe lowest rate poisoning These results suggested that activity binary ternary improved comparison activated bifunctional mechanism catalyst. addition enhanced intrinsic mechanism, suggesting synergistic effect between metals.
